They’re in! ...Now to put all the splash guards back on tomorrow morning. It’s Jack and Coke time to celebrate getting it this far. Pops and I also hit up the closest Pull-A-Part for Ford and Mazda pieces. We found replacement window and mirror switch-gear so now my small Korean mom can adjust the mirrors in the case she has to drive the Ranger. I raided a bunch of 626s and a Protege for more body fasteners in preparation for tomorrow.

Here’s an after and before comparison! It certainly look a lot less...bling-y with those being bright chrome headlights gone!

Those looks snazzy. Were the Chromeo ones stock or aftermarket?

Stock, they’re standard on all NB2 Miata except for the ‘04-’05 Mazdaspeed Miata. I scored mine from one that barely got flooded in Florida during Hurricane Matthew.

Ah cool. DId you go NB2 for a reason? I’ve been thinking that the answer for what to do with my recent bonus is Miata but have been looking NB1 or NA8 and supercharging the 1.8.

I mainly chose the NB because the parents didn’t approve an older NA as my college car. After a while, I’ve grown to appreciate my ‘02 and I think it’s one of the best years of the NB2. ‘02 was the first year where the trunk lights automatically turn on when you open the trunk (you had to turn on the running/driving lights otherwise) and it’s the last year of the Torsen mechanical LSD. The projector headlights and updated interior put it ahead of the NB1 even though it means I have to run premium gas instead of regular due to a higher-compression motor.

If you’re wanting to build a SC miata, then both the NB1 and the NA8C are great choices. I liked driving my friend’s ‘97, it’s a fun little machine despite being 5 years older than mine. The NA is lighter car but the NB has better rigidity out of the box along with more aerodynamic headlights. I highly recommend sitting in/driving each one first before deciding.

Yessss this looks great, I’m excited for my swap now! Make sure you sell your old headlights for a pretty penny. Markets good for those.

That’s great info. I’ve heard that the pre-vvt miata’s take a little better to FI than the later ones. I’m also keeping in mind parts availability. It seems like finding a NB1 with Torsen LSD would the ideal car for me but I should drive them both. I care very little about interior and comfort. I’ll use this on my commute but my roomate and I (she commutes with me) don’t care. Strangely enough, she would probably go nuts (in a good way) if I told her we would be commuting from now on in an Exocet.

If that’s the case, then I recommend a ‘00 Miata as the ‘99 models have a #4 main bearing cap issue that tends to occur somewhere between new and 70k miles. http://www.miata.net/solo/99miatathrustbearingfailure.html
